The Samsung Galaxy S8 has been officially announced and is available to be purchased at a price of 2,789 AED. We invite you to go through the gathered information articles about the new flagship of Samsung, a smartphone that should mark the year 2017.

The Samsung Galaxy S8 is the new flagship of the brand presented on March 29, 2017, in New York during the Samsung Unpacked 2017.

The comparatives

But the Galaxy S8 is not the only smartphone on the market, and it is necessary to get an idea of what it is capable against its competition:

Two curved models

The first feature of this vintage 2017, Samsung draws a line on the “classic” model to propose only models equipped with a curved screen. If the camera body is smaller, the screen size changes to 5.8 “for the S8 and 6.2” for the S8 Plus.

The screen now covers almost 85% of the front of the smartphone. The overall design remains in step with the previous models but gives an impression of freedom and flexibility. Samsung also relies on the design of its smartphone to introduce new features.

Thus the wide screen of the smartphone can be used to make display two different applications simultaneously. While chatting with friends on Messenger, the user can continue watching a movie on Netflix or a video on Youtube. The Home button is now fully integrated into the smartphone screen.

The fingerprint reader, on the other hand, passes on the back cover of the smartphone, and now locates right next to the camera of the smartphone. Last note interesting: the screen of the S8 goes to Quad HD +, and thus reaches a resolution of 2560 pixels by 1440 pixels. An ideal definition for viewing movies in very high definition as well as for virtual reality, always on the program with the Gear VR.

 A less energy-consuming processor

Sensitively more powerful than the S7 (+ 10%), the new processor that equips the S8 presents especially the enormous asset of being much less energy-consuming than the processor of the S7.

According to Samsung, it would consume 17% less energy than the S7 processor, with consequent heavy consequences for the autonomy of the smartphone, which would be able to hold a full day with a single charge, thanks to its battery of 3.000mAh (3.500 mAh for the Plus model).

Bright photos

No big revolution in camera, which keeps a 12-megapixel sensor on the back, and 8-megapixel at the back, but with a larger aperture (F1.7) for brighter images. Some small improvements can be noted with the software, with the addition of stickers that allow personalizing his photos and a new mode of capture combining up to 3 images to improve the contrast of the image.

An iris scanner

In addition to the fingerprint reader, the Galaxy S8 also comes with an iris scanner, similar to the one that equips Windows computers, which allows to identify itself in the blink of an eye thanks to a retinal scanning technology.

A feature that would according to Samsung much safer than a fingerprint reader, and would thus allow users to secure more access to their smartphone.

Bixby, the new virtual assistant of Samsung

Another interesting feature of the S8, Samsung has added a button to its smartphone to make a call to its new virtual assistant Bixby.

It does not just share the meteorological forecasts of the day and manage the user’s agenda, but can also interact with it by voice, and answer different questions and orders dictated vocally.

Dex, a dock that transforms its S8 into a real computer

The most interesting feature of the S8, however, is a dock that is sold separately, which will connect its smartphone to a computer monitor, keyboard and mouse. Equipped with a fan and a connection including several USB and HDMI ports, the dock will allow working on the large screen using only its smartphone to power the machine.

The interface will adapt to the support and will allow access to more functionalities. Several professional applications, including Word, Powerpoint, and Excel, will be compatible with this technology, which is largely inspired by Windows Continuum.

More memory

As its rival, Samsung also increases the minimum storage capacity of its smartphones, going from 32 to 64 GB of storage space. Like the majority of other Android smartphones, the S8 will have a microSD port that will allow the user to increase the storage capacity of the smartphone at a lower cost.

 A waterproof smartphone

Like its elder, the Galaxy S8 can be charged with a simple USB cable (type C this time) or wireless, thanks to the miracles of the Qi technology. The device will also be IP68 certified, and therefore theoretically resistant to water and dust.

Like the S7, the S8 will also be equipped with a quick charging system that will charge its smartphone to 50% of its total capacity in just a few tens of minutes.

A higher price

The Galaxy S8 plus will be available in stores from April 28th. The two instruments can be preordered from March 30, in three different colors: black, orchid gray and arctic silver. Those who pre-order it will, however, be able to receive the device 8 days before its exit in store.
