The rumor was true, Android 7.0 Nougat went out well yesterday, in the middle of the night. For now, only the latest Nexus smartphones and tablets are affected by this mobile OS update.

This is the comeback for Google, which took advantage of the night to release its new version of Android 7.0 Nougat.

For the occasion, Google has put on line a complete website (only in English) giving an update on the new features contained in the new version of Nougat android 7.0.

It discusses the 1500 Emojis contained in the OS, the new multi-window mode, the Vulkan API, a new battery saver, but also and especially new features of the interface which includes a slightly revised notification system and Menu settings a bit more convenient.

For which devices and how to download it?

For now, only Google’s recent devices can be upgraded to this new version of Android. These are Nexus 6P, 5X and 6 for smartphones, Nexus 9 (LTE and Wi-Fi) for tablets, Nexus Player and Pixel C. It will be necessary to make a reason, the venerable Nexus 5 will never be entitled To Android Nougat.

If you have one of these devices, there are two ways to install the update. The first and simplest is to sign up for the Android Beta Program to receive it immediately. For others, who are not afraid to put their hands in the sludge, it is possible to download the files of the OTA update and flash them directly on their device using command lines.

An update that will take time to arrive on the majority of Android smartphones

Finally, if you do not own a Nexus device (the vast majority of you surely), the upgrade to Android Nougat will depend on the goodwill of the manufacturer of your phone.

Experience shows that it is often the recent and high-end smartphones that are entitled first to the updates and that the manufacturers are rarely pressed. In other words, take patience, Android Nougat will certainly not land on your phone before long weeks or even months.
