We have grouped the best phones released in 2016, and there is something for every taste. Whether they are interesting because of their excellent price/quality ratio or because they are simply the most advanced, the models that appear in this ranking all deserve a glance. So, let’s take a look at the ranking of the best smartphones of the year.

10. Lenovo Moto Z Play
As a successor to the X-Play, which is already renowned for its extreme autonomy, the Moto Z Play takes on the torch by adding a more premium design (glass back, aluminum edge) and the modularity touch of the Moto Z.

But most of all, it retains its excellent autonomy which allows to cheerfully exceed the two days of use, or even reach the three. Other highlights include a beautiful 5.5-inch AMLOLED display and Full HD, and performances that, without reaching the level of a high-end, guarantee a fluid and responsive use of the smartphone.

9. Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Pro
Among the rising Chinese smartphones, this Redmi Note 3 Pro has the advantage of being available in an “international” version, supporting the main 4G frequency bands, including the 800 MHz, often forgotten by manufacturers on the Asian market.

Let’s say it clearly: the Redmi Note 3 Pro is simply the best value for money that you will find, for a smartphone 5.5 inches. A huge battery, a Full HD screen, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 650 processor sufficiently swift, a fingerprint reader: it has everything it takes, and its design made in the classic well executed with an aluminum back.

8. Apple iPhone SE

The Apple iPhone SE remains a reference for users who want to stay on a small screen, since it exactly resembles the design of the iPhone 5 and 5S, and therefore a 4-inch format, perfectly usable with one hand.

Inside, Apple has equipped its small model with the components of the big: chip A9 guaranteeing very good performance, efficient camera in low light conditions and capable of capturing videos in 4K, and compatibility with contactless payment Apple Pay. To spoil nothing, the autonomy of the iPhone SE is excellent, occasionally exceeding the day of use without recharging.

7. Samsung Galaxy A5
The Galaxy A range was already a good surprise in 2015, and the 2016 version upgrades the mid-range Samsung in quality. The Samsung Galaxy A5 is a very good balanced smartphone that may not be in performance but offers the essentials without compromising on design almost as successful as a Galaxy S7.

The screen is “content” with Full HD while retaining the AMOLED technology, appreciable by its infinite contrast ratio. The processor may not be enough to play the most intensive 3D games at the high detail level, but it is largely enough for everyday use. Whereas the Galaxy A5 is particularly distinguished, it is on its autonomy, among the best on the market: the interest of coupling a technical sheet without bidding to a high capacity battery. An endurance that compensates a photo part set back from the high-end brand.

6. Xiaomi Mi 5s

A smartphone with high-end components at such reasonable cost? It is possible with the Xiaomi 5s. The last flagship of the Chinese manufacturer. A Snapdragon 821 processor, 64 GB internal storage, a big battery and a Full HD screen, what to compete with the best high-end this year!

While most of its competitors bet on a 5.5-inch screen, the Mi 5s also has the advantage of staying on a 5.1-inch size and thus poses as a good alternative to the Samsung Galaxy S7. Xiaomi has also taken care of the photo part with a Sony IMX sensor of 12 megapixels of which one of the rare defects lies in a too pronounced smoothing of the textures in low luminosity. The combination of the most economical version of the Snapdragon 821 with a generous battery is proven in terms of autonomy with excellent endurance.

5. Huawei Mate 9

The Huawei Mate 9 is the latest smartphone from the Chinese manufacturer. Like its predecessors, it puts on a very large screen, however a little smaller than that of the Mate 8 since it goes back to 5.9 inches, always in Full HD.

Gigantic? Not that much: the smartphone is finally no bigger than an iPhone 7 Plus, and if we obviously pain to use it with one hand, its dimensions are well optimized. The HiSilicon Kirin 960 processor ensures high performance in games, thanks to a full HD resolution which does not play the highest bid, and contributes to the strong point of the Mate 9: its autonomy always impeccable, allowing to stay 2 complete days without a problem.
On the photo side, we gain the dual sensor realized in collaboration with Leica and a very good quality in good lighting conditions. The Mate 9 includes 64 GB of storage and 4 GB of RAM, with the option of adding an SD card. A very good smartphone if the large size of the screen does not put you off!

4. Apple iPhone 7 plus

As regular as a clock, Apple offers an iPhone 7 that, seen from the outside, looks more like a second 6s. It’s a smartphone now resistant to water, an improvement in the autonomy and, for the iPhone 7 Plus, a dual camera for making portraits more flattering thanks to its additional lens with 2x zoom.

Always equipped with a pressure sensitive screen, and a new haptic motor providing a convincing tactile feedback, the new iPhone has all the good taste to finally offer 32 GB of internal storage as standard. Be careful though: this is the first iPhone, and probably not the last, to no longer integrate mini jack. An adapter and a pair of Earpods equipped with a Lightning connector are nevertheless provided.

3. Honor 8

The Honor 8 has once again created a surprise: less than 400 euros, the youngest of the “young” brand of Huawei has everything to please, since it incorporates most of the characteristics of the Huawei P9 and in particular its Dual camera to capture more details thanks to the presence of a monochrome sensor.

Equipped with a fingerprint reader whose behavior can be customized, it is swift, enduring, and its design in glass and metal is all the more seductive. One of the best mid-range choices, which frankly has not much to envy to Samsung or Apple’s tenors.

2. Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge

The Galaxy Edge S7 does not suffer from its flammable battery problems, but it remains one of the best smartphones released in 2016. Moving from 5.1 to 5.5 inches, it retains a pleasant grip, thanks to its curved screen which limits the additional bulk. For a screen of such a size, it is much less bulky than an iPhone 7 plus: the advantages of a generous diagonal without the inconvenience!

The screen is magnificent, performance and autonomy at the top, and the camera is distinguished by very good results in low light, impeccable reactivity and a complete photo layer enabling capture in RAW format. For lovers of stylish design and photo, this is undoubtedly the reference under Android.

1. OnePlus 3

The Oneplus 3 was one of our favorites this year. This smartphone gathers all the ingredients of the high-end smartphone: exemplary construction, shielded technical sheet, serious battery. The whole thing is characterized by an aggressive pricing position which you get used to very well. And by a clean interface, with a more responsive follow-up than average.

hielded technical sheet, serious battery. The whole thing is characterized by an aggressive pricing position which you get used to very well. And by a clean interface, with a more responsive follow-up than average.

The battery, the connectivity, the audio and network layers do not change, while the photo/video part is more debatable (there is better, like the HDR and the autofocus with phase detection, and at least good, Such as night shots and less impressive RAWs). The OnePlus 3 is, therefore, a very good smartphone, seductive and even, blow of heart.
