Anyone who considers himself a true follower of Android has three dates listed on his calendar. These dates correspond to the three major international technology fairs: the CES (Consumer Electronic Show) in Las Vegas, the IFA (International Funkausstellung) in Berlin and the MWC (Mobile World Congress) in Barcelona. It is at this last event that we are interested today.

For this new edition, the MWC 2017 will open its doors and, as every year, we are on hand to tell you everything we hear. Latest rumor dated: Nokia has confirmed his presence at the event. A big YES!

What is the MWC?

The Mobile World Congress is one of the largest high-tech trade shows in the world. It takes place every year in February in Barcelona. The MWC is dedicated solely to innovation in the field of mobile phones.

The event brings together professionals and journalists, private individuals cannot participate. Nearly 200,000 square meters of exhibition space are available! The Mobile World Congress is also 14 kilometers of fiber optic, 52 kilometers of Ethernet cables, and 1200 Wi-Fi hotspots. Let’s see what we have in the offing for 2017!

A modified LG G6

With its G5, LG had been one of the big stars of the MWC 2016. Obviously, the Korean brand will repeat the experience this year with its successor: the LG G6. The G5 sales were not up to expectations of LG, the concept of the mutant smartphone did not win the hearts of the public. Several rumors already claim that the modular aspect that made its strength (at least in theory) will disappear on the LG G6 since it did not really find its audience.

The G5 is that it was as distinct from its prototype as its competitors. Will it be the same with the G6? The big Korean competitor will not be there to steal the show so LG has every chance to come back in the limelight. Well, now this beautiful device moves away from the characteristics of the rest of the range.

A Samsung Galaxy S8 as a new undisputed reference?

We have high expectations with this Galaxy S8. The Galaxy Note7 was a real fiasco for Samsung, both for its reputation and finance, and it is obvious that Samsung counts on its S8 to compensate for the losses. According to recent rumors, the Galaxy S8 should be released again in two versions: a classic and an edge format.

The smaller of the two would use a 2K definition while the edge model would benefit from a 4K definition. Will Samsung want to make its S8 edge the smartphone of reference for virtual reality? We’ll know more in February 2017.

Sony back with a new name?

Sony should come to this annual meeting to introduce us new smartphones. The strategy of Sony is quite strange, its product cycle and its name changes / letters in the names of phones leave us a little perplexed. For the MWC 2017, it should present us two smartphones but the characteristics are not known at the moment, except that they have for name G3112 and G3121 and that the greater of the two will have a screen of 5.5 Inch for a 4K resolution.

More from Alcatel, more VR?

Alcatel may be less famous than its competitors but it nevertheless answers during the press conferences. We should find Alcatel again this year, presenting several models all at once. Last year it formalized three devices that work with virtual glasses, maybe it will do the same this year, or even present its own helmet since the RV seems to be close to its heart.

  • The Alcatel Idol 4 features a 5.2-inch screen for Full resolution (1080 × 1920 pixels).
  • It also has 16 GB of internal memory, 2 GB of Ram and a Snapdragon 617 processor.
  • The Alcatel Idol 4S has a 5.5-inch screen for QHD definition (1440 x 2560 pixels).
  • To this are added 32 GB of internal memory, 3 GB of RAM and a Snapdragon 652 processor.
  • The camera is better than that of Idol 4.

The Alcatel Idol 4+ seems similar to the Idol 4, we still do not know in what proportions.

In league-Xiaomi and Huawei honored

For its first edition at the MWC, Xiaomi had unveiled its Mi5 last year. We should find a new flagship again this year, probably under the name Mi6. Its big Chinese rival, Huawei, has recently released the Huawei Mate 9 which is one of the best devices of the brand, and it is very likely that it will release a new phone at the MWC. Will it be a similar device but with a more classic size?

Asus, Lenovo, Nokia, ZTE and others

Many other manufacturers will be present at the MWC, but we do not yet know what they have behind the head. It will take several more months to discover it.

The Great Return of Nokia

The former star of mobile telephony has decided to make its big comeback in front of the stage. Its presence at the MWC is confirmed, it will be among the largest and the reputation of the brand will undoubtedly attract the public. At the moment, we do not really know what Nokia intends to present, according to rumors at least 3 smartphones are in the presentation.

Nokia will opt for the classic strategy: an entry-level device, a mid-range device, a high-end device? We’ll know in February.

Are smartwatches on the verge of extinction?

Strangely, the smartwatches were to subscribers absent from the Mobile World Congress 2016. Will they return to the day for the MWC 2017? The market is not very successful for this type of devices and manufacturers have preferred to look at smartphones and other types of gadgets.
