Xiaomi launched earlier this year a new terminal positioned midway between the middle and the high end: the Redmi Note 3 Pro. If you want to know what’s in its belly, then this article should be of interest to you.

Xiaomi is an extremely popular manufacturer in China but it is a little less known among us and it makes sense because it does not officially market its products in Europe.

Technical characteristics:
But first of all, we will take the time to briefly recall the characteristics of the beast.

• The Redmi Note 3 Pro is equipped with a 5.5-inch screen and the slab can display a Full HD resolution with a pixel density of 403 dpi.
• It is powered by a Snapdragon 650 consisting of six cores clocked at 1.8 GHz, cores coupled to 2 or 3 GB of RAM depending on the version.
• The same goes for the storage space that reaches 16 or 32 GB depending on the models.
• In both cases, it is possible to extend it by means of a micro SD card.
• The main sensor reaches 16 million pixels and is crowned with a lens that can open to f / 2.0. The front camera does not exceed 5 million pixels on the other hand.
• The Redmi Note 3 Pro is 4G compatible but it does not support the 800 MHz band.
• Behind, we have WiFi, Bluetooth, a GPS and a large battery of 4,000 mAh which confers a very good autonomy to the whole.
• Otherwise, the phone can also accept two NANO SIM cards or an NSIM card and a micro SD card, as desired.

To summarize:

• 5.5-inch screen (1920 x 1080).
• Snapdragon 650 @ 1.8 GHz.
• 2 or 3 GB of RAM
• 16 or 32 GB storage (+ micro SD).
• Sensor of 16 million pixels (f / 2.0).
• Front camera of 5 million pixels.
• 4G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS.
• The battery of 4 000 mAh.

Design & Ergonomics

The Redmi Note 3 Pro is equipped with a metal shell with impeccable finishes. It is quite imposing and heavy enough but it immediately inspires confidence and it has nothing to envy to the high-end phones on this field.

At the back, we will find the photo module, its dual-LED flash, and a fingerprint reader. It will suffice to put a finger on it to launch the identification. There is also a grid at the bottom. It hides the phone’s loudspeaker and it is not necessarily well placed because we will tend to choke the sound when the phone is held in hand.
All physical buttons are grouped on the right edge. The volume buttons are a bit high but it will still be possible to access them when the phone is held in hand. Same thing for the power button.
Xiaomi also placed three touch sensitive buttons on the front with a standard white backlight. The screen occupies much of the façade and is surrounded by a fine black border. There is a hatch on the left flank. It gives access to the ports of the device. The first slot will contain a Nano SIM card, the second a Nano SIM card or a micro SD card.

The connector is placed on the bottom edge and the headphone jack on the other side, on the top edge. It is equipped with an infrared transmitter.

The screen of the Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Pro reaches a diagonal of 5.5 inches and it is capable of displaying Full HD and therefore 1920 × 1080, all with a pixel density of 403 dpi.

First observation, the definition is large enough for movies and games. The IPS technology provides good color rendition and the same applies to contrasts and viewing angles. Not much to say about the brightness. The screen is bright enough to be used in direct sunlight.

The tactile layer is also very responsive. Simply slide your fingers across the screen to move between different home screens or view the notification center.

Processor & Autonomy
The Note 3 Pro is equipped with a Snapdragon 650 processor consisting of six cores clocked at 1.8 GHz. The version that has been loaned me also integrates 3 GB of RAM. This chip may not be the fastest on the market and it is obviously far from matching the performance of the Snapdragon 820 but it has no trouble running the platform.

Netflix and Plex turn on small onions and this is obviously true for videos in Full HD. But the real strength of Redmi 3 Pro is its autonomy. With its 4,000 mAh battery, it will have no trouble keeping two days with a single charge and it can even reach three days if you take care and take the time to disable the services you do not have need.

Photo & Video

The Redmi Note 3 Pro is equipped with a sensor of 16 million pixels surmounted by a lens capable of opening to f / 2.0. The phone is capable of taking beautiful pictures, it is a fact, but it is still very far to equal the Galaxy S7 or even the Galaxy S6 on this ground there.

If the autofocus is both fast and accurate thanks to the phase detection, the shots lack a bit of dive and the sensor quickly shows its limits in low light condition. This is valid for photos, of course, but also for videos. The application is rather ergonomic but it does not go far enough. The manual mode thus leaves frankly to be desired, the options not jostling at the gate. The front camera is good quality but it is also unforgettable.

Functions & Overlay

The phone comes with MIUI 7.1 and it runs under Lollipop 5.1. The interface is quite surprising at first and it reminds so much iOS. If there are several home screens, Xiaomi has chosen to ignore the app drawer and it must be confessed that it is rather disconcerting at first.

When you install an application, it will be directly on your home screen, exactly as on the Apple platform. In fact, we get used to the ergonomics of MIUI very quickly.

The notification center, for example, is structured around two screens. The first list the alerts, the second the quick shortcuts. The themes are also part and it will be quite possible to change the aspect of the platform according to its tastes. The Xiaomi shop offers many different themes. Nothing to say about the fingerprint reader except that it works extremely well.

The Redmi Note 3 Pro is a great surprise. It is beautiful, it is robust, it is powerful and it is endowed with an autonomy of crazy.
