What’s In Tech Rage? The Surface Pro 4

Microsoft presented several products and the company has given us a new hybrid machine designed for the most demanding users: the Surface Pro 4. If you have not been able to follow the event live, here is all about the characteristics and the particularities of the device.

Microsoft did not try to reinvent the wheel and the Surface Pro 4 inherits lines and materials from the previous model, with a slightly bigger screen, reaching a diagonal of 12.3 inches.

Let’s move on to the datasheet:

The Surface Pro 4 features a 12.3-inch PixelTouch display capable of displaying 2,736 x 1,824, with a pixel density of 267 dpi. We’re on a 3: 2 format, so. The user will have the choice of the chip and will be able to opt for an Intel Core M3, Intel Core i5 or Intel Core i7 of the 6th generation. The same goes for the RAM that will be offered in three capacities: 4 GB, 8 GB or … 16 GB. Needless to say, we will also have the choice of storage capacity: 128 GB, 256 GB or 512 GB.

The photo part is not outdone either. The tablet boasts an 8-megapixel sensor capable of filming in Full HD and a front camera capable of capturing videos in HD. The unit is also equipped with stereo speakers with a Dolby sound system. Microsoft did not mention the battery capacity but we know that it will allow us to hold 9 hours in video playback.

The connectivity is rather complete for its part since it has a USB 3.0 port, a micro SD card reader, a headphone jack, a Mini DisplayPort output and a magnetic port for the keyboard. All with WiFi 802.11ac, Bluetooth 4.0 and all the usual detectors.

If you want to know more about the possibilities offered by Windows 10. In addition to that, the tablet is compatible with Windows Hello and it also means that it will be able to identify you by analyzing the structure of your face.

The new stylus imagined by the firm is even more precise and even more sensitive than the previous generation. It supports 1,024 levels of pressure and the Palm Block technology will allow you to put your hand on the screen without fear of bad manipulation. The keys are a bit more spaced out and Microsoft even took the opportunity to enlarge the surface of the touch pad to make it more comfortable to use. The Surface Pro 4 is not compatible with the docking station of previous models but the Redmond firm has introduced a new accessory: the Surface Dock.

It is in the form of a rectangular box that will be placed on the desk and that incorporates several different ports. Microsoft has not done things in half since we have two Mini DisplayPort ports, four USB 3.0 ports, audio output and a Gigabit Ethernet port. Simply connect it to our various peripherals to turn the tablet into a desktop computer.

Design and general appearance

The Surface Pro 4 is a big tablet. Despite this, Microsoft managed to keep its dimensions and especially a very acceptable weight. It is even thinner than the Pro 3. The shell and the borders are made of silver-colored magnesium, which gives a robust appearance to the whole.

In the back is the crutch that already existed. It can fold up to 150 degrees, allowing an ideal placement for many uses. My only question concerns the strength of the hinges which are very small and plastic. Although they appear to be strong, they may be the first to be damaged over the long term.

All the top of the hull is pierced with slits to dissipate the heat. For this purpose, a fan has also been integrated. Only the version with Core m3 processor is devoid of it, its weight passing from 786 to 766 grams. The 8 MP camera is discreet at the top of the hull. On the top of the Surface Pro 4, there are the classic buttons for volume and power. They are solid and do not show any play that would doubt their lifetime. The bottom slice has a Surface Connect port that allows you to adapt either the Cover keyboard we will discuss later or a Surface dock.

Applications

The system installed on the Surface Pro 4 is fairly standard, few additional applications are pre-installed. The main remains Surface, which allows to adjust the sensitivity of the eponymous stylus and send comments to Microsoft. The other software provided is called Drawboard PDF, which allows you to create and annotate PDF files with the stylus. The use is simple and fast handling.

Camera

Cameras are often the weak point of touch terminals. Those of the Surface Pro 4 are average, the pictures taken are of correct quality, even if it does not reach the peaks. With an 8 MP lens, the rear camera can shoot videos in Full HD 1080p at 30 frames per second. No 4K or slow motion, the American tablet is not intended for video enthusiasts.

their screens:
The frontal NPC is doing pretty well with its 5 MP. It films in HD 720p, which is ample enough for videoconferencing between colleagues or with the family. It is also adapted to the Windows Hello function designed for Windows 10.

Keyboard Type Cover

The Type Cover keeps the same philosophy as its predecessors: lightness, functionality, and aesthetics. Available in five colors, it is larger than the model for Surface Pro 3. The mounting is done magnetically thanks to the Surface Connect port located under the shelf. Once in place, the keyboard does not move so much the magnetic effect is strong, so you do not risk losing it even when transporting a bit brutal.
