Every year, the Redmi Note range evolves: the Redmi Note 3 has brought aluminum, the Redmi Note 4 a new design and a 2.5D screen.

The new Redmi Note 4 in addition to the phone, there is a USB / micro USB cable, a 2A charger in Chinese plug (EU adapter supplied free of charge on request), a paper clip for ejecting the SIM tray and a quick start guide in Chinese. But let’s see how Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 is? Is a good smartphone or not?

  1. Aesthetics: a level of finishing that has been revised upwards

This Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 presents a magnificent premium design. The Redmi Note 4 is, therefore, beautiful, elegant, 100% metal, but features in addition to chamfers. We are here on a matt aluminum unibody design, and therefore the battery will not be extractable. The grip is good and the mobile does not slip.

  • On the front panel, above the screen, there is an earpiece, a notification LED, brightness/proximity sensors and a front camera.
  • Below the screen, you will notice the three backlit keys: Multitasking, Home, and Back.
  • The back of the terminal houses a circular photo sensor with a dual-tone LED flash, a fingerprint reader and lower, the Xiaomi logo (mi).
  • The upper slot of the mobile is occupied by a 3.5 jack port, an IR port, and a secondary microphone input.

  • On the lower section, there are 2 grids: the left one hides the primary microphone input, the one on the right the loudspeaker.
  • Add a micro USB port with two rivets.
  • The left side houses the SIM/micro SD drawer (1 micro SIM + 1 nano SIM or 1 micro SIM + 1 micro SD), while the right side receives the volume key and the power button.
  • Dimensions: 151 mm long x 76 mm wide x 8.4 mm thick.
  • Weight: 175 grams.
  1.  Image and sound: a beautiful image

This Redmi Note 4 Chinese smartphone, despite its price content, offers a beautiful 2.5D screen of 5.5 inches. It is equipped with a Full HD 1080p resolution which offers a beautiful image, colorful (but not too much), contrasted and bright.  So it’s fun to watch a video on such a screen, but also to play 3D games.

As for the sound, one will notice the good quality of that provided by the loudspeaker located on the lower edge of the mobile.  A loudspeaker that offers a clear and relatively powerful sound and which, by its location, will not be choked when the phone is laid flat on a table. On the call, the sound returned by the earpiece is very satisfactory. His correspondent is well understood. And as for the 3.5 jack, no complaints.

  1. Performances: high, and largely sufficient

One of the many points that interest the Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 lies in its beautiful performance. Thus, if the latter are not “dementia”, they are high and worthy of a mobile high-end (but not ultra-high-end). So here we have a smartphone with enough performance to make everything work, be it small 2D games, but also big 3D games, not to mention large applications.

  • Processor: Deca-core Mediatek Helio X20 MT6797M 64 bit clocked at 2.1GHz
  • Memory: 2GB
  • Graphic Processor: Mali-T880MP4
  • Storage Memory: 16GB of memory that turns into 10.1GB at the first startup.
  1. Connectivity: Usual Xiaomi

While the Redmi Note 4 is, like almost all mobiles originating from the Middle Kingdom, equipped with 2 SIM slots, and that it is indeed a quad-band GSM.  As for the sensors, there may be mentioned an accelerometer, a rotation sensor, a gravity sensor, a gyroscope, luminosity and proximity sensors, an e-compass, a magnetic field sensor, fingerprints.

The latter is very responsive and works very well. The network hangers are good, whether in 2G, 3G, 4G or Wi-Fi.  For the GPS, in an urban condominium court, it took 37 seconds at the Redmi Note 4 before obtaining a fixed first (8 satellites). A complete connectivity therefore for this smartphone, but without the B20 in 4G.

  1. Operating system: up-to-date and highly coupled

As always on a smartphone brand Xiaomi, we find the overlay house MIUI. Some will even talk about ROM in its own right. Here we are entitled to a fully updated system since we benefit here from an MIUI 8 which is indeed based on Android Marshmallow 6.0. For the Play Store, simply download the “Google Installer” app from an alternative market to get all Google services.

You will find nice applications such as:

  • Themes: which gives access to a theme shop.
  • Security: allows you to clean RAM, manage your data, prohibit calls to certain people, control your energy consumption, grant permissions to certain applications, etc.
  • Scanner: allows to scan barcodes or QR codes.
  • Mi Remote: which transforms your smartphone into a TV remote control.
  • Video: a video player that is also mixed with some sort of Chinese YouTube.

  • Notes: allows you to record notes, etc.
  • Operating system: Android Marshmallow 6.0
  • Overlay: MIUI 8
  1. Use: a powerful mobile

Here we will take a look at the “basic” uses of a smartphone (calls, SMS, emails, reading web pages, etc.) which are of course provided by this Redmi Note 4.  Ditto for all that is big applications or even 3D games, because there too, this smartphone ensures.

As for photo sensors, this is one of the few points on which smartphones are now able to distinguish themselves from each other.  As such, we can only emphasize the excellent quality of the photographs produced by the 13-megapixel back sensor with autofocus and a dual-tone LED flash.

In conclusion: a beautiful phablet with price contents

Again once again, Xiaomi shows us its ability to produce very good mobiles at affordable prices.  One can afford an excellent smartphone performance and premium design.  For the rest, we are in front of a smartphone with very good performance, a good main photo sensor, good battery life, etc.  So the many good points make us advise you that Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 is a good purchase.

  • Good: Premium aluminum design, beautiful image, beautiful autonomy.
  • Bad: No B20 tape in 4G, ROM only in English / Chinese (on test copy)
